Exploring Botanical Art Workshop
Exploring Botanical Art is an interactive companion to The History and Continuing Tradition of Botanical Art presentation on March 21, 2024. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to some of the basic watercolor techniques used in botanical painting. Beginner coloring mixing, wet-in-wet watercolor washes, and finishing details with colored pencils will be used to create a simple botanical composition that each participant will take home. This is a fun and informative session designed for everyone, no matter their level of skill or painting experience. Supplies are provided.
6 spots will be held for FRCC students, staff, or instructors! Contact Laura.Puls@frontrange.edu to reserve a spot. (Please note: if you took this workshop in the Fall 2023 semester, the content will be the same.)
The presenter Janet Vetter began studying botanical art in 2016. Janet’s paintings celebrate the annual appearance of many Rocky Mountain wildflowers, well-loved garden flowers and exotic orchid varieties. Janet is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists. Janet shares her watercolor compositions with audiences by entering regional shows and juried exhibits. You will often find her hiking on a mountain trail, exploring nature and looking for her next moment of inspiration.
The American Society of Botanical Artists is an organization of over 1300 members from more than 20 different countries worldwide. Its chapters and artist circles maintain active exhibition schedules and provide opportunities for artists to meet and learn.

Howl of the Hearts: Poetry Contest Reading
Poudre Libraries and Front Range Community College are reviving the library's poetry contest, now called Howl of the Hearts! During February 2024, poets submitted their poems for the chance to win gift card prizes and other honors. Finalists will read their poems aloud at a special poetry reading on April 4, 2024. First, second, and third place for teen and adult categories will be awarded at the conclusion of the program.
CSU's Community Literacy Center will pop-up at the Howl of the Hearts Poetry Reading with a literacy engagement activity.
The Howl of the Hearts poetry reading kicks off National Poetry Month and celebrates the creativity of Poudre Libraries and FRCC community members.

Reading Rainbow: LGBTQ+ Book Club
This month for the Reading Rainbow: LGBTQ+ Book Club we'll be reading and discussing Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters.
Join us in-person at Old Town Library. These discussions are free and open to the public, but you must register to receive an invitation and information on getting a copy of the book.
Book Description: Reese almost had what previous generations of trans women could only dream of: a life of mundane, bourgeois comforts. Then her girlfriend, Amy, detransitioned and became Ames, and everything fell apart. When Ames's boss and lover, Katrina, reveals that she's pregnant with his baby—and that she's not sure whether she wants to keep it—Ames wonders if the three of them form some kind of unconventional family—and raise the baby together?
