Celebrate your right to read and learn more about intellectual freedom: the rights of individuals to read, seek information, and speak freely. For ages 12 and older.
To complete this challenge, you'll need to:
1. Log into your Poudre Libraries' Beanstack account (or create an account) and enroll in the "Let Freedom Read" challenge. You can enroll beginning September 25 and log badges from October 1-31.
2. Read a book of your choice that has been banned or challenged.
3. Earn at least ONE activity badge.
Complete the challenge (and log your badges in Beanstack) by October 31 to be entered in a prize drawing. Three winners will receive a Banned Books Swag Bag!
The library has gone to the dogs (and cats and other story-loving critters)! Drop in to read to friendly animals and find your new book buddy!
Presented by Larimer Animal People Partnership. For children in grades K-5. Furry (and not-so-furry) friends will be ready to read for 40-60 minutes, so stop by early.
For girls in grades 4,5 and 6 with an adult woman companion (mom, grandma, aunt, neighbor, mentor). Enjoy making new friends, book discussion and activities along with pizza.
Registration is limited and starts September 1. After registering, a give-away book for each registered pair will be available for pickup at Council Tree Library.
Recommended for ages 3-7 and their families,
friends, and caregivers.

bring you a special storytime with local author Michelle Schaub.
How can YOU lift others with kindness?
Michelle's book "Kindness is a Kite String" illustrates simple yet
impactful ways to spread kindness and empathy through a community. Families
will enjoy a reading of the book by Michelle and kiddos will get to make their
very own kindness kites to take home.

The Crowded Bookshelf and a signing with follow the event.
Perfection is
a myth – come do some myth-busting with us! Release your inner artist and let
go of pressure for it to be “good” – instead let’s have fun and make some “bad”
art! Zero skill is required, just bring your creativity and leave judgement at
the door. We will provide paints, feathers, glue, clay, magazines, etc. - all
you need to provide is enthusiasm.
At the end
we will set up a gallery of all our absurd creations to “ooh” and “ah”, and
cast votes for your favorites in multiple categories. Winners will get places
ribbons or medals and bragging rights.
Registration encouraged but not required. Light
refreshments will be provided.
Birds
of prey are coming to the Council Tree Library Community Room. Learn more
about these birds and conservation efforts in Colorado. (Extra credit is offered for FRCC Veterinary Tech students who attend; sign in sheet will be available!)

This month we will be reading Maia Kobabe's Gender Queer. This award winning graphic novel memoir was also the most challenged book in the US in 2022. "Maia’s intensely cathartic autobiography charts eir journey of self-identity, which includes the mortification and confusion of adolescent crushes, grappling with how to come out to family and society, bonding with friends over erotic gay fanfiction, and facing the trauma and fundamental violation of pap smears."

This event

Designed for boys in grades 4,5 and 6, along with an adult male (Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Neighbor, Mentor). You will engage in a staff lead discussion of the book. The free event includes pizza and hands-on activities.
Registration is limited and starts August 1. After registering, your book will be available to pick up at Council Tree Library under the adult's name so just ask staff to retrieve it.
So much can be done from home - even checking out library books and movies! We will show you how to use the digital resources of the library for use at home or on the go. We’ll learn how to download/stream eBooks and audiobooks from Libby, as well as movies, music, and tv shows in Hoopla, and documentaries and online classes in Kanopy.Bring your own tablet, phone or laptop, and we will show you the rest.
