Kevin Cook: The Geography of Life in Colorado

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Old Town Library
Large Meeting Room 1

Ecologist Kevin Cook presents the Wildlife Window Nature Series:

Alive in Colorado!

A Bald Eagle sighting or an Elk bugling can bring a smile to the spirit as well as to the face.  Such wildlife encounters enrich daily living.  Beyond knowing the names by which we identify plants and animals, understanding the diversity of wildlife and comprehending the connectivity of wildlife collectively magnify that richness.  As a place where biological north and south and biological east and west converge, Colorado offers spectacular opportunities for engaging wildlife.  This year’s theme will present details about Colorado’s wildlife diversity and then explain how that wildlife links together to create the lifescapes that we all treasure.

Croak by Night, Hiss by Day

As we’ve kept learning, we’ve changed our perspectives of reptiles.  Birds are related to alligators; turtles aren’t related to anything; lizards and snakes are on their own.  Amphibians remain a pretty clear grouping.  Colorado has just enough of these animals to make time afield interesting.
