Great Decisions Zoom Meeting -- Topic 7: The Philippines and the U.S.

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Event Details

An online discussion of governments and policies around the world; join us in a zoom 'living room' to talk about world events that impact the United States. Meeting information will be provided by email to registered participants. The Philippines has had a special relationship with the United States since the islands were ceded by Spain to the United States after the Spanish-American War at the end of the 19th century.  However, since the election of Rodrigo Duterte, the country has pivoted more toward China, and away from the U.S. Duterte has also launched a large scale war on drugs that many criticize for its brutality. What does the future hold for U.S, relations with the Philippines? *A limited number of 2020 booklets have already been distributed for the year. Participants are still welcome to join in the discussion without the booklet. There will be a short informational video available to everyone.*

Based on the Foreign Policy Association program information and mediated by a volunteer facilitator. More about the Foreign Policy Association program is at http://www.fpa.org/great_decisions/.
