Our volunteer speaker will recount his 2019 travels to Outer Mongolia, including the Gobi Desert and the Altai Mountains. This program will be offered through Zoom. Meeting information will be provided by email to registered participants.
Trip highlights include dinosaur eggs, the eagle
huntress and Mongol culture, plus the Naadam festival. This land-locked
country, slightly smaller than Alaska, is one of the least densely populated
countries in the world. Approximately
half of the people are nomads tending their flocks of bactrian camels, horses,
sheep, and goats and living in easily transportable felt-covered dwellings
called gers (very similar to yurts in other parts of Asia). The country is
bordered on the north by Russia and on the south by China and so is highly
influenced by those two countries.
Please join the Fort Collins International Center (FCIC), a
501c3 nonprofit, and the Poudre River Public Library District for International
Night at the Library program. The program presents a different country or
region from around the world each month. All the speakers are volunteers who
wish to share their experiences/ cultures with the Fort Collins community. If
you are interested in presenting at this program, please contact Mark
Oberschmidt at moberschmidt@gmail.com to volunteer. For more information about
