Event Details

For our young readers ages 8-12. Learn about and experience Hawaiian culture with native Hawaiian and middle-grade author Malia Maunakea! Hear Malia talk about her book Lei and the Fire Goddess, then complete hands-on crafts and activities related to the book.

Registration required for each child -- caregivers do not need to register. Each child who registers and attends will receive a FREE copy of Lei and the Fire Goddess!

Malia’s book Lei and the Fire Goddess is the story of twelve-year-old Anna Leilani Kama’ehu, a Colorado girl who goes back to Hawai’i to visit her tutu. After she accidentally insults Pele the fire goddess, she must battle legendary creatures, team up with demigods and talking bats, and most importantly, embrace her Hawaiian roots to undo the curse.

This session is generously sponsored by The Youth Clinic.

Fort Collins Book Fest is a free annual festival celebrating literature and social conversation. This year's festival takes place February 1-19. To learn more, visit www.focobookfest.org.
