Dragons, royalty, elves, trolls, and fractured fairy tales galore!  Tweens and teens, try your hand at writing a fantasy or fractured fairy tale for our Fantastical Flash Fiction Contest. For tweens and teens ages 10-18. Submissions are open from June 7-28, 2020

Official Contest Rules

  1. ENTRY PERIOD
    • The contest begins at 9:00 a.m. MST on June 7, 2020 and ends at 11:59 p.m. MST on June 28, 2020. Winners will be notified by July 17, 2020.
  2. ELIGIBILITY
    • You must be ages 10-18.
    • You must live in the Poudre River Public Library District service boundary area.
  3. CONTEST ENTRY GUIDELINES
    • You may submit one (1) entry.
    • Entries must be minimum of 500 words and maximum of 1000 words in length and must be appropriate for a PG audience.
    • Entries must include a title, the author’s name, and grade.
    • Submissions must be your own original work
  4. HOW TO ENTER
    • Upload your flash fiction story using the Library District’s contest submission portal at any time during the entry period. Late or corrupt entries will not be accepted.
    • All entries must be submitted as a .doc file sent as an attachment to librarycontest@poudrelibraries.org.
    • You must include your name, title, age, and phone number in the body of the email.

o   By submitting an entry, you agree that the content is your original work and you accept all responsibility and liability if you submit someone else’s work.

  1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
    • Contest entries will be archived and accessible to the public on Poudre River Public Library District’s website as an ebook. At no point is authorship credit removed.
    • Upon submission of your entry to the Contest, you grant to Poudre River Public Library District the non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, no-cost license and right to use your entry in any medium and for promotional purposes including, but not limited to, merchandising, advertising, marketing, and digital communications.
  2. JUDGING CRITERIA AND AWARDS
    • Winners will be chosen by a select panel of judges. Any ties will be broken by the judges and their decision is final.
    • Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria: Does the story fit the contest requirements? Does the story fit the theme of the contest? Is the story creative in its subject matter or view? Does the story stand out from the crowd? Does the story have unintended grammatical flaws that detract from the story?
    • Prizes, in the form of Barnes and Noble gift cards, will be awarded in three age categories: Ages 10-12, Ages 13-15, and Ages 16-18. First place in each category receives $40 Barnes and Noble gift card; second place receives $30; and third place receives $20.
    • Winning stories will be  announced and all stories will be shared virtually during our 60 Second Story Slam on July 31, 2020 beginning at 6 p.m. Recommended for ages 10 and older. Registration required to receive invitation to attend.

Poudre River Public Library District reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Contest, and cancel or refuse any entry or any individual winning the Contest.
